Can I run Red Dead Redemption 2 on my PC?
By Cliff Henjum November 7, 2019:
After waiting for more than a year from the original console release, PC gamers finally got their wish: Red Dead Redemption 2 released on PC on November 5, 2019. Red Dead Redemption 2 is the third entry in Rockstar Games’ Red Dead franchise and is actually a prequel to the original Red Dead Redemption. Their other notable game is the popular Grand Theft Auto V, which has been one of the most heavily played games since its release. Lots of people like to compare the two franchises and say that Red Dead is basically just GTA but with cowboys. Now that it is available on PC, tons of players are wondering if their computer can run Red Dead Redemption 2. Like with many other launches, RDR2’s launch has not been without its issues, but as long as your rig passes the system requirements test, you should be good to go.
The minimum system requirements for RDR2 are a little above average when comparing them to other triple-a games like Modern Warfare and The Outer Worlds. For starters, you will need a 2 GB video card that’s at least as powerful as a Radeon R9 280 or a GeForce GTX 770. Fun fact about the GeForce GTX 770 - it passes the minimum GPU requirement for every game in CanYouRunIt’s Top 100 except for PUBG. Rockstar Games also states that your computer should have at least an Intel Core i5-2500K or an AMD FX-6300 for the CPU if you want to play RDR2 on at least Low Graphics. 8 GB of RAM is the last major component you need to worry about when wondering if your rig can run Red Dead Redemption 2. However, if you are wanting to max out the graphics and/or mess around with the mods that start coming out, then you will want a PC that passes the recommended requirements as well.
The recommended CPU requirements alone are enough to make many modern rigs tremble. Your CPU will pass the system requirements test if it’s at least as powerful as the Core i7-4770K or the AMD Ryzen 5 1500X. This game basically has some of the highest CPU requirements out of all games currently on the market! Looking at the GPU requirement can also be scary for some, but not nearly as terrifying when looking at the CPU. A GeForce GTX 1060 or a Radeon RX 480 will have you playing cowboy with beautiful graphics in no time. Only RAGE 2 has had higher GPU requirements in the last year so hopefully your rig is up to date.
