Can my computer play Overwatch?
Updated February 17, 2021 By Cliff Henjum
The winner of the Game of the Year Award in 2016, Blizzard’s Overwatch, is still churning out updates and is one of the most played multiplayer games today. Besides being an amazing multiplayer game, Overwatch will also run on most modern PCs due to the fact that it supports computers that only have Intel HD Graphics for their GPU (HD Graphics 4400 and above). If you have a discrete GPU, then you only need to have a GeForce GTX 460 or a Radeon HD 4850 to pass the minimum GPU requirement. Blizzard also wants you to have 4 GB of RAM and a CPU that’s at least as powerful as an Intel Core i3-530 or an AMD Phenom X3 8650. Land that epic game-saving Reinhardt charge with the graphics cranked to max on a computer that can also pass the recommended system requirements test. Your video card should be at least a GeForce GTX 660 or a Radeon HD 7950, and your CPU should be at least an Intel Core i5-660 or an AMD Phenom II X3 715.
By Cliff Henjum July 5, 2019 Blizzard’s Overwatch is one of the most popular shooters on the market right now and is still consistently putting out new content. When the game initially released on May 24, 2016, there were only 21 playable heroes, but since then nine more have been added to the pool. Some of the playable heroes, like Zarya and Tracer, have even made the crossover to Blizzard’s MOBA, Heroes of the Storm! So if you are wondering if your computer can load up Overwatch and start blasting away the competition on King’s Row or Hollywood, then all you need to do is take the Overwatch system requirements test.Passing the minimum system requirements for Overwatch is important to being able to run Overwatch with passable frames on Low settings. Its system requirements are similar to Embark and Nascar Heat 3 and is one of the rare gems of a game that officially supports Intel HD Graphics 4400 and above. The minimum GPU requirements for Overwatch are set at the GeForce GTX 460, the Radeon HD 4850, and the Intel HD Graphics 4400. The GeForce GTX 460 is the 67th most powerful Nvidia GPU and can actually run almost 80% of today’s modern games! A basic Core i3 CPU or Phenom X3 8650 are the minimum CPUs that will enable your computer to play Overwatch. If you want to crank the graphics all the way up while you’re zoomed in with Widow preparing for that headshot, your computer needs to pass the recommended system requirements test.
The recommended system requirements for Overwatch are only a little bit higher than the aforementioned minimum specs. Blizzard set the recommended video card requirement at the Nvidia GeForce GTX 660 and the ATI Radeon HD 7950. Both of these cards support Pixel and Vertex Shader 5.0 and have 2 GB of VRAM. Your PC also needs 6 GB of system RAM, but if you have more than that, that’s fine too. To pass the CPU test, your CPU needs to be at least as powerful as an Intel Core i5 or an AMD Phenom II X3 with about 2.8 GHz clock speed. It will run on any 64-bit OS with the latest Service Pack.
Armed with a computer that passes the system requirements test will allow you to start climbing the ranks today! Enjoy Overwatch and just make sure you don’t play Hanzo too much ;)
